About the Author
Nelle Windsor compiled the poems her mother, Mary Elizabeth, wrote along with the photos from an album given to Mary Elizabeth. Nelle then gave a copy to her brother, Sidney Stumbo,my grandfather. He knew I was gathering information for the family genealogy,he loaned the his copy for me to copy and distribute to family and anyone interested. I,Larry Dean Stumbo, felt that the poems were inspirational, quite contemporary and could be a reflection of any time in history. I wanted to make Nelle’s and Mary Elizabeth’s creations more permanent for everyone to enjoy. Mary Elizabeth Gilbert(Stumbo) was born during the time of the Civil War, and later married a Civil War Veteran,my Great-grandfather. In her journey from her birth place Pennsylvania, she traveled to Iowa,Texas, Missouri and back to Iowa.
